• A benefit for the New Group Theater, hosted by Winona Ryder. The event, which raised $200,000, began with a cocktail reception at Hugo Boss’ Fifth Avenue store.
• Courtney was in the early stages of a film project titled Hello, Suckers, which would have been directed by Scott Elliott (New Group’s artistic director) and produced by Martin Scorsese. She had been cast as Jazz Age nightclub hostess Texas Guinan. She took the stage at this event and sang a collection of torch songs from Guinan’s era.
• Winona and producer Daniel Lanois joined Courtney for Long Black Veil. Brian Eno also jammed on a few songs.
• Cynthia Nixon, Drea de Matteo, and Randy Harrison were in the audience.
