Fan Review: Zombie1

Banter about Marylin Manson being there but not playing etc. Curtain goes up.

Mono (a little sloppy but the screamy chorus was great as was the RUN AWAY RUN AWAY, which she extended a little longer this time). i liked it a lot better live than on the record, and i’m already a big fan of the record version..it’s just a song thats meant to be faster harder and more raw. it was so punk!

Plump (very topical, huh – someone else mentioned the rolling eyes when she sang “liar at a witch trial” – it was pretty funny.. ps. who is Travis?).. god i love this song. it sounded just like the record version.. she emphasized the ‘do you fake it for me like i doo’ part.. it was obvious she was trying to get a message accross in that song.

All the Drugs – this was one that the crowd really started grooving to..it’s just got that great driving beat – it was uncanny how well she made it sound like the studio version.. there were lots of messy moments in the show but this was not one of them. the ‘all my money part’ was sublime, especially the knowing wink and smirk when she sang the ‘doesn’t feel as good (exhausted smirk wink) as the druuuugs”. this was extended considerably, lot’s of new lyrics, lots of sad stuff..(the lyrical theme of the whole night was definitely dour, with lots of references to falling and leaving and having nowhere to go)

Miss World – before this song (again, don’t quote me) she said something like “i suck at everything except for this” and she played the opening chords (she skipped the opening part) and the crowd went wild – then she fucked up and had to start over LOL.. she explained her gaffe by saying something like “well i didn’t write it” – the crowd went crazy .. there were lots of ‘well i didn’t write it anyway’ comments throughout the night. anyway, this was the song that i think the audience was the most excited by, and it was performed really well with tons of alternate lyrics (see other posts in this thread). she ended it with an extended version of the opening, singing “i am the girl” this and “i am the girl” that. it was really funny.

I’ll Do Anything – Again, i may be messing up the order – but this was AMAZING. i’m not a big fan of the album version but hearing all the girls in the band screaming the “WOO HOO!” and rocking hard to it really made a difference. it’s a much better song w/out all the production.

[note: she told us that she wasn’t going to show us her tits unless we sang all the words and lit our lighters.. of course we couldn’t manage that so no titty for the audience.. boo hoo…she was trying to get us to make the guitarist show her tits… can’t say i was a huge fan of her..she seemed kind of cold and distant. i thought the basist was great though..]

Celebrity Skin – haha… pretty funny. a little rough around the edges (good for anyone who was turned off my the original’s poppy goodness) and she did a lot of alternate lyrics (sorry i can’t remember them – just lots of ‘i’m totally fucked’ lyrics – they were great!!!) and kept on repeating the ‘model actress hooker waitress’ line, at times mixing it up. in that last bridge she ended with something like ‘hooker waitress, model actress, oh just go HOME!!” it was cool.

Hold onto Me – “do you want to hear a power ballad???” she screamed at us.. and yes, we did, so she played it.. it was a MUCH harder and faster version of the album version, and when all the girls sang in unision (especially with the ‘i am the center’ lines) it was perfect. she carried it out a while “malibu” style, singing more of the ‘i am the center’ line over and over..

But Julian – before singing julian she bragged it was the best song ever and spoke to the travis guy that it was better than any of his songs (again, don’t quote me – just get the general idea) – THIS SONG WAS PERFECT! she hit all the lyrics on the dot and her ‘shut ups’ were shrieky goodness! the best part in the song IMHO is the “you know when your phone went dead” up to “i can read your MIIIIIIND!!!” which of course she totally hit on the nail. this song was also extended a bit. well, all of them were kind of extended.

(as clove said – “contrived encore” – she leaves the stage)

Voices Carry (OMFG – possibly the best performed song of the night… hearing clove scream “HE SAID SHUT UP!!” at the end was heavenly). such a sad song.. i didn’t think vocally clove could pull it off but she really took the song to the next level. like most of the songs, she kept on yelling at the girls to sing with her. sam had one of those mic headsets on and was doing a lot of the vocal work – did i mention that sam looks like she’s in a music video with that fan blowing her hair up while she plays?? tre rock n’ roll. lol.

Sunset Strip (long uptempo extended version, with a lot of the uncensored lyrics in the ‘meltdown’ part but stopped short. courtney ended it in the typical album way with the quiet outro but then was telling the band that she wanted them to play more because the pills part was like her “rap” and she could do it for hours.)

Malibu (they started playing it and it was the wrong key.. courtney tried to sing it and it was just a mess. then they stopped, figured out what key to play, asked the audience what the opening lyrics were – then argued with them about it, the nerve lol, and then continued on with the song). it was pretty perfect after that…she did a lot of holding the fans hands and stuff.. it was really sweet… then…

Sunset Strip outro (at the end of malibu, she did the traditional live malibu reprise with the ‘gonna rescue you, etc.’ plus she went back into the song and chorus a last time.. then she just played the ‘malibu’ chords and sang some new lyrics which were really good and sad and hopeless and angry – then she slammed back into the “pills” meltdown and went on with that for another two or so minutes.. it was so intense!!!! then it quieted down and she sang more of a quiet ‘pills’ rant.. basically the whole time the band is sitting there bewildered with the audience, not really knowing for sure what to do, just letting her rule the stage and trying to take cue…ddamn it was so cooL!

other things..hmm…christopher ciccone was there (aka madonna’s brother), the lead singer from disturbed was standing right next to my sister and i (he was kind of a tool but helped keep the rowdy idiot clove fans away from us), i saw the guitarist from no doubt outside..

oh, and that poor roadie guy… clove was totally abusing him throughout the set. he seemed to be eating it up though.. it was really funny.

sorry. i know this lacks eloquence but it’s the best i can remember. SUCH A LOUD, INTENSE, UNHINGED SHOW. never seen anything like it. i couldn’t possibly recount all the clove banter that was so great.. certain things that were already mentioned i didn’t bother with, though i have to say the introducing of sam as ‘this is our drummer…tommy…DAVE GROHL!!!” was hillarious! oh another funny one “Does anyone want an expired percocet???” LOL.

ps. when sam threw her drumsticks, one of them slammed into the disturbed guy’s girlfriend’s head and then landed at my sister’s feet, who of course picked it up… ROCK!
